Rabbi Harold A. Friedman of Temple Beth El has been named Fairmont’s “Man of the Year” and was awarded a scroll and key to commemorate the award. This is the first time in West Virginia history that a Jew was so honored.
Rabbi Friedman, who was named “Man of the Year” by a board consisting of one Catholic and three Protestants–one a clergyman–was honored for his manifold activities in behalf of the town. He was active in organizing a Brotherhood Week program, is a Boy Scout Commissioner and a chaplain at a nearby veterans hospital and has broadcast over local radio stations on a program sponsored by the town’s ministerial association.
