Western B’nai B’rith Lodges Study Fight on Hitlerism at Annual Convention

Following the usual plan of succession in office, Monroe Friedman was advanced to the post of grand president and Alexander Weinstein, of Los Angeles, was elected first grand vice-president, at the concluding session of the seventieth annual convention of District Grand Lodge No. 4, B’nai B’rith, here yesterday. David Blumberg, of this city, was elected second grand vice-president. Edward A. Zeisler, executive secretary, and Harry K. Wolff, grand treasurer, were reelected.

The convention opened Sunday with more than 150 delegates in attendance, representing subordinate lodges in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Montana, Idaho and Nevada.

Coincident with the three-day session of the grand lodge, the Women’s Grand Lodge, comprising the ladies’ auxiliaries from the same territory, held a convention here.

Mrs. Rose G. Bertram, of Venice, Cal., presided over the women’s meetings. Mrs. Beatrice Peal, of Stockton, Cal., was elevated to the presidency for this year according to the succession plan.,

The part being played by the B’nai B’rith in meeting the menace of Hitlerism was told by Judge Isadore M. Golden, of San Francisco, Western director of the Anti-Defamation League, who hastened to this convention from Chicago, where he had attended a hurriedly-called meeting of officers of the league.

Judge Golden delivered his report yesterday. He was followed by Edward A. Zeisler, who reported for the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation.

Mr. Friedman presided over the sessions in place of the late president, Jack Findling, of Salt Lake City, who died this year.
