What, It is claimed, will be one of the country’s most notable clubhouses is proposed for a south side site in Chicago by the Shoreview Athletic Club, an organization composed exclusively of Jews. Land and the building, plans for which have already been completed, it is said, will represent an investment of between $1,500,000 and $2,000,000.
In telling the purposes of the club its founders say it is “to secure unity of purpose and effort along lines of art, literature, science and Americanism.”
“No application for membership will be accepted except from people of Jewish ancestry,” an announcement continues, “and in addition the applicant must be in full sympathy with this movement of erecting a magnificent testimonial to the splendid citizenship, sterling Americanism and illustrious achievements of the Jewish American people.”
Dr. Henry Garden is president of the organization: Samuel Pollak, vice president, and Edward Glick, secretary and treasurer.
