While the subcommittee of the political commission of the Zionist Congress today submitted a resolution of non-confidence in Dr. Chaim Weizmann to the general political committee, Dr. M. D. Eder and Kurt Blumenfeld, leader of the British and German delegations respectively, renewed their demand for the reelection of Dr. Weizmann. They based their demand on the belief that he would agree to be a candidate.

The sub-committee resolution was adopted by a vote of three to two and the whole political commission is now considering this resolution as well as one regarding the issue of a Jewish majority on which the commission is still deadlocked after nearly 48 hours of continuous session. A draft resolution on this subject reading “the Mandatory Power shall not hinder the Jewish work leading to a Jewish majority” has been offered as a compromise by the General Zionists.

This resolution finds sympathy in the ranks of the Laborites who are ready to vote for it if it is slightly modified. Dr. Weizmann is also believed to be satisfied with such a formulation. The Revisionists, however, are fighting against it and with them a part of the American delegation and 30 of the 34 Mizrachi (Orthodox Zionists) delegates.

In the meantime the Congress situation remains as unclear as ever. The reopening of the possibility of Dr. Weizmann’s candidacy by the Eder and Blumenfeld groups has urged the anti-Weizmann groups to an even stronger attitude as regards the formulation of the ultimate aims of Zionism. These groups are now seeking a formula which will make Dr. Weizmann’s reelection impossible.

On the other hand the Laborites today resolved by a vote of 53 to 11 to continue to support the movement for the reelection of Dr. Weizmann. The General Zionists today introduced a resolution before the steering committee for a general coalition but the Eder and Laborite groups oppose such a coalition.

Zinovyi Tiomkin, Revisionist delegate from France, today resigned from the Revisionist party because he considers their Congress attitude too lenient.
