The White House today cancelled a meeting of editors of American Jewish publications with Vice President Walter Mondale and President Carter’s reelection campaign chairman Robert Strauss, which had been scheduled to take place Wednesday in the Oval Office.

Al Eisele, the Vice President’s press secretary, said the meeting was called off because “basically too many people have other things to do.” He said that “not enough people from cut of town” accepted the invitations which were extended by telephone. Asked how many were invited, Eisele said, “We asked more than enough — 30, 40, 50. We tried to squeeze it in” but “it looks like we should have done it earlier.”
