–The White House officially announced today that Israeli Premier Yitzhak Rabin will come to Washington in Sept. to confer with President Ford on the Middle East. Officials said that although there is no firm date as yet Rabin would probably arrive on Sept. 10. The Israeli Cabinet in Jerusalem yesterday approved Rabin’s trip to the U.S.
Meanwhile, it was reported here that Richard W. Murphy, the new U.S. Ambassador to Syria, has arrived in Damascus. Dr. Sabah Qabbani, the new Syrian Ambassador to Washington, presented his credentials to President Ford last week. Upon arrival tonight, Murphy reportedly said that the possibilities of developing bilateral relations between Syria and the U.S. are good. He said the talks Syrian Foreign Minister Abdel Halim Khadam held in Washington have led to fruitful results.
