“There is no indication that the Government contemplates such steps,” the report continued. “It is believed, however, that there will be some action to assert the Government’s authority over the Jewish population.”
The report says that “a sense of uneasy expectation” is hanging ever both the public and the authorities in Jerusalem. The authorities are concerned over their failure to trace the terrorists responsible for last week’s attack on police headquarters in Jerusalem and Jaffa and an arms depot in Tel Aviv, Reuters states. The only arms found so far appear to be those used by the attackers and thrown away in the pursuit, the report reveals.
