A committee of eleven to undertake the organization of Zionist district organizations in. those communities where they are now non-existent and to take measure to strengthen those already existing will be appointed as the result of a conference of 250 Zionists from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts that met here yesterday to discuss means of revitalizing the New England Zionist Region.
The need for such a reorganization was made apparent when Jacob de Haas, chairman of the Organization Committee of the Zionist Organization of America, pointed out that the Zionist membership of New England totalled only 730, of which number 325 were in Boston. This figure is exclusive of the 3,752 Hadassah members in New England. He compared the Zionist membership of 148,000 scattered over 3,000 cities and towns in 1919 with the membership of 14,000 in 200 towns and cities exclusive of the Hadassah when the new administration took over the Z. O. A. The conference was opened by James D. Gluntz, acting-president of the region, and Judge Jacob. Kaplan presided.
