A private service was held here today for William Zorach, the Lithuanian-born Jewish artist whose sculptures included Biblical figures, who died here Tuesday night at the age of 79.
Zorach rose from the background of poverty of his immigrant parents, who fled Czarist persecution of the Jews, to become one of the most successful artists, with his works being exhibited in more than 80 museums and galleries. His last work was of two women and a child entitled “The Wisdom of Solomon.”
