Michael Shur, secretary of the Yiddish Scientific Institute of Wilno, who is in this country until October, when he will return to Poland, yesterday announced tentative plans for the tenth anniversary celebration next year in Wilno of the founding of the Institute, which has branches in nineteen countries and a board of trustees including such scholars and scientists as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Edward Sapir and Chaim Zhitlovsky.
The Yiddish Scientific Institute has for its aims the study of all phases of Jewish life in all languages and in all countries. It collects material mirroring Jewish life and preserves Jewish folklore, maintaining archives and museums in Wilno in which is accumulated a body of material unequalled in this field by any other institution in the world. The Institute has 1,000 members in the United States, according to Mr. Shur, who plans to visit Jewish communities in the South and West before returning to Poland.
