Charles A. Wimpfheimer, seventy-six, president and treasurer of A. Wimpfheimer and Bros. of 456 Fourth avenue, New York, well known velvet merchant and philanthropist, died at his home today.
A director of Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, the American Velvet Co. and the Chase National Bank, Mr. Wimpfheimer was a generous donor to charity. In 1916 he gave $150,000 to Mount Sinai Hospital, which he followed with later donations, and eleven years later he donated $87,000 for a nursery school at Vassar College. Subsequently he gave $25,000 more for the nursery. He also was a director of the United States Finishing Co. and Litt Bros., Philadelphia department store.
A vice-president and member of the board of governors of the Monmouth Memorial Hospital here, he built a four-story wing to the hospital in memory of his son, Jacques E., who was killed during the World War.
Mr. Wimpfheimer is survived by a widow, the former Annie Nord-linger, a daughter, Mrs. Andre Blumenthal of Norwalk, Conn., two sons, Clarence E. and Harold D. Wimpfheimer, both of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Weil and Mrs. Frederick C. Goldsmith, of New York City.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock at Temple Emanu – El, Sixty – fifth street and Fifth avenue, New York City. Interment will be in Salem Fields, Cypress Hills, Queens, New York.
