Nine newspapermen representing major metropolitan dailies across the country will leave tomorrow on a survey trip to Israel to report on the immigration, settlement and rehabilitation programs supported there with funds raised through the United Jewish Appeal, it was announced by Edward M.M. Warburg, General Chairman of the U.J.A.
The newspaperman will spend three weeks in Israel, During which time they will inspect reception camps and “work villages” for newly-arrived immigrants from Europe, North Africa and the Near East. They will also tour Israel’s major cities and meet with top Israel Government officials, including Premier David Ben Gurion.
Making the trip aboard a TWA Constellation are: George Carroll, New York Journal-American; Harry B. Wilson, St. Louis Globe-Democrat; Otto Zausmer, Boston Globe; Grace Davidson, Boston Post; Dickson Preston, Cleveland Press; Max Wiener, Newark News; David Karno, Chicago Sun-Times; Richard Pearce, San Francisco Examiner; and George Cassidy, Brooklyn Eagle. Upon return from Israel, several of the newspapermen will stop in Paris to inspect homes for refugees and other installations maintained by the Joint Distribution Committee.
