After two stoppages called here by the Federation of Jewish and Hebrew Teachers, who charged the Jewish Welfare Fund’s administration with failure to go through with an agreement for a wage increase and retroactive pay, talks were resumed here today between the teachers and the Jewish School Board of Winnipeg, in an effort to straighten out the dispute without further overt action by the teachers.
The teachers and the Jewish School Board agreed three weeks ago to a 12-1/2 percent wage increase. The teachers contend that the agreement had included a clause to make portions of the increase retroactive to January 1, 1967. The Welfare Fund, however, rejected the retroactivity claim. The Welfare Fund condemned the stoppages as a disservice to the community and the students. After a meeting last night, however, both sides agreed to continue their negotiations.
