Preparations to provide better accommodations for immigrants living in tents before the winter arrives are now being made by the Jewish Agency, it was reported today at a meeting of the Israel members of the Zionist Actions Committee. The chief obstacle in carrying out the plan is the shortage of funds, it was emphasized.
Avraham Harzfeld, leader of the Mapai, addressing the meeting, called for the dissolution of the immigrant camps in the shortest possible time, regardless of cost. The meeting also discussed the question of the status of the Jewish Agency in connection with the government bill now pending in Parliament. The meeting will continue tomorrow.
Eight new agricultural settlements will be established in various parts of Israel before the High Holidays, the Jewish Agency settlement department announced today.
Seven of the new settlements will be small holders’ cooperatives set up by immigrants while the eighth will be established by Histadrut workers from urban areas. Four of the settlements will be affiliated with the labor movement and one each will be affiliated with the Mizrachi laborites, the General Zionists and Havoed Hazioni (workers in the General Zionist movement).
