With the Department of Youth Activities of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations taking active interest in the project, the annual observance of Jewish Youth Day in New Orleans gives promise of developing into a national movement. This day was inaugurated in New Orleans four years ago. It is celebrated on the second Sunday following the end of Passover. The date this year falls on April 15. Special services, using “Jewish Youth” as the theme, will be held at the various temples and synagogues on April 13 and 14, the grand climax occurring with a program and dance Sunday evening at the Athanaeum.
Jewish Youth Day is conducted under the auspices of the Central Council of Jewish Youth, a body consisting of two delegates from each of the nine young people’s organizations active in local Jewish life and including also an advisory board of rabbis and prominent laymen. Fifteen hundred invitations for the occasion have been sent to the members of these youth organizations, which comprise the Young Judaean Council, Junior Hadassah, Athletic League, and the A. K. E. Fraternity.
