Witnesses at the trial of Dr. Josef Tiso, former head of the puppet Slovak Government, today testified that he was aware of the ultimate fate of Jews deported from Slovakia. Tiso and Sano Mach, his Minister of the Interior, who is also on trial, have insisted they did not know that deported Jews were being killed in Nazi extermination camps.

One witness stated that he informed the Slovak Government of the slaughter of Slovak Jews in the Oswiecim death camp. Another witness said that as early as 1942 Tiso knew of the killing of deported Jews. He produced a letter from M. Karmasin, former Secretary for German Affairs in the Bratislava Government, to Heinrich Himmler stating that the government was readily complying with German anti-Jewish demands.
