Kansas voters have given a sharp rebuke to anti-Semitism and Nazism by turning down at the polls the Rev. Gerald B. Winrod, Jew-baiting evangelist, in the republican senatorial primaries. With returns in from 2392 out of 2709 precincts late this afternoon, Winrod was in third place with 46,717 votes, as compared with 90 955 for Clyde M Reed and 56,505 for Dallas Knapp.
Winrod had been opposed by the national and state Republican organizations. John D.M. Hamilton, Republican national chairman, William Allen White, influential editor of the Emporia Gazette, and other Republican leaders had joined in denouncing Winrod as a bigot. He conducted an energetic campaign, apparently provided with plentiful funds, and for a time political observers conceded him a better than even chance of winning the nomination.
