Women were appointed bailiffs last week for the first time in Israeli court history but one of them found out yesterday that she had a man-sized job. Her assignment was to carry out an attachment of property order in the case of a young couple who separated after one month of married life. The wife had requested the attachment order to back her claim for support. When the bailiff accompanied by a male court archivist arrived at the flat, the husband flew into a rage and started beating his spouse. The wife’s lawyer who was present tore up the attachment order, apparently to rescue his client. The bailiff and her companion were thrown out of the fist and police had to be called.
