More than $16,500,000 has been contributed by American Jewish women to community campaigns throughout the nation which are participating in the 1948 United Jewish Appeal drive for $250,000,000, it was announced today by Mrs. Ernest G. Wadel of Dallas, chairman of the U.J.A. Women’s Division.
Mrs. Wadel pointed out that the figures are incomplete and only represent 287 communities which have women’s divisions out of a total of 373 such groups campaigning this year on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal. She said an additional 30 cities have raised money from women, but did not have formally organized women’s divisions.
