An all-day regional conference of local sections of the National Council of Jewish Women took place at the American Women’s Association last Monday. The sessions, over which Mrs. Maurice L. Goldman presided, were devoted to the formulation of techniques and procedures for the committee on study outlines. Mr. Leo Schwartz led the discussion and Mrs. Rebekah Kohut outlined her plans for the committee of one thousand, of which she is chairman.
The Women’s League for Palestine recently tendered a reception and tea to its vice-president, Mrs. Rose Isaacs, at the Hotel Astor Roof Garden. Mrs. Isaacs, who returned from Palestine early this month, reported on the success of the Beth Hachalutzoth in Haifa, and stressed the need for a similar establishment in Tel Aviv. Other speakers were Miss Goldie Meyerson, representative of the Working Women’s Council; Miss H. Rosoffsky, leader of the WIZO group of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Mrs. William Prince, president of the league.
A garden luncheon was held by the Senior Council of Jewish Women of Passaic on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Emerick Stark. The committee on arrangements included Mmes. Michael Slavin, William Margolies and Harry H. Weinberger.
The engagement of Miss Helen Tannenbaum, daughter of Mrs. Fannie Tannenbaum and the late Isidor Tannenbaum, of 2160 Seventy-ninth street, Brooklyn, to Mr. Harry Nassberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nassberg, of 2034 Eighty-first street, Brooklyn, has been announced. Miss Tannenbaum is active in Tranquility League and Junior Hadassah. Mr. Nassberg was graduated with honors from New York University Law School and is a member of the Democratic County Committee of the Sixteenth Assembly District of Brooklyn and of Theta Sigma Lambda, an honorary legal fraternity.
The Brooklyn chapter of Hadassah held the final board meeting of the season on Monday afternoon at the Johnston Building, 12 Nevins street. Plans for the coming season were outlined, and November 14 was officially designated as Hadassah Day.
Mrs. Charles Kramer, president of the Women’s Organization, of Central Synagogue, has resigned her office on account of ill health. The organization deeply sensible of the fine service she has rendered, regrets to lose her.
Mrs. Herbert M. Harris has been chosen to be the new president of the Women’s Organization of Central Synagogue, It is expected that under her leadership the beneficial activities of this group will successfully continue.
Dr. Jonah B. Wise of Central Synagogue and Mrs. Wise left for Portland, Ore., their former home, where they will spend the summer.
Miss Margaret Rosenberg, daughter of Mrs. Jacob Rosenberg, of Rochester, N. Y., and a niece of Mr. Alfred Weil of Philadelphia, was married last week at the Hotel St. Regis to Goddard Leiberson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Leiberson, of New York City.
The bride is a graduate of Smith College which she entered at the age of thirteen and from where she graduated after three and a half years as Phi# Beta Kappa member.
