Mrs. Samuel J. Rosensohn, national treasurer of Hadassah, has reported increases of 4,000 members and $35,000 in collections up to the present, as compared with the corresponding date last year. The chief local event to add to this total during the coming week will be a linen shower and card party to be held tomorrow afternoon at the Hotel Milburn, 242 West Seventy-sixth St. Mrs. Ida L. Bonaparth, president of the Concourse Group of the New York Chapter, heads the arrangements committee.
TEMPLE SISTERHOODS COMMITTEE
The fourth biennial convention of the New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods will be held at Temple Rodeph Sholem, 7 West Eighty-third St., today, tomorrow and Tuesday. The theme of the convention will be: “What Constitutes a Modern Jewish Life?”
Rabbi Sidney S. Tedesche of Union Temple, Brooklyn, will present the topic at the opening meeting tonight, following which there will be a reception under the auspices of the Rodeph Sholem Sisterhood, of which Mrs. Samuel Siegler is president. A symposium on the convention theme will be held tomorrow afternoon when the social and educational aspects will be presented by Rabbi Solomon Fineberg of Mount Vernon, and Rabbi William F. Rosenblum of Temple Israel. A dinner is scheduled for the evening, at which Mrs. William Dick Sporborg and Rabbi Jonah B. Wise will speak, and a Peace Play will be presented by the Rodeph Sholem League, Luncheons on Monday and Tuesday will complete the social functions of the convention, to which all sisterhood members are invited Mrs. E. N. Mayer is General Chairman of the Arrangements Committee.
VETERANS’ AUXILIARY WORK
The Ladies Auxiliary of Manhattan Post No. 1 of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States meet every Tuesday afternoon to prepare bandages, medical packs, and other incidentals necessary for use at Government Hospital Base 81 at Kingsbridge Rd. All mothers, sisters, daughters and wives of Jewish veterans are urged to join their number. Mrs. Ray Deane Reitzfield, at 1117 Gerard Ave., Bronx, will supply all information concerning enrollment.
SCHOENBERG RECEPTION
Mailamm, an American organization interested in the advancement of music in Palestine, will hold a reception for Arnold Schoenberg next Sunday evening at the Jewish Club, 23 West Seventy-third St. There will be a program of Palestinian songs.
IVRIAH’S ACTIVE WEEK
This will be an active week for Ivriah. Tomorrow afternoon the West Side Division will meet at the Rutgers Club, 314 West Ninety-first St., for its regular meeting. Leo Schwartz will discuss Jewish Problems and their solution, and Miss Selma Stark will speak on “Creative Listening to Music.” The Bensonhurst and Eastern Parkway divisions will also hold their meetings tomorrow in their respective districts. On Tuesday afternoon the Executive Committee will meet at the Hotel Beacon, Broadway and Seventy-fourth St., to make final arrangements for the Springtime Breakfast to be held on May 3 at the Waldorf Astoria. On Thursday afternoon Dr. David de Sola Pool will speak on “The Right to Survive” at a tea for unaffiliated members at the home of Mrs. Jacob Rosenholz, 211 Central Park West.
COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN
The program of the fourteenth Triennial Convention of the National Council of Jewish Women was discussed at the four-day meeting of the Board of Directors of the Council at the American Woman’s Association Clubhouse last week. The theme of the Triennial will be the part that the Council can play in the evolution of a new social order in which there shall be freedom from emotionalism and violence, tolerance for all races and creeds, and a larger opportunity for self-development.
Much of the discussion centered upon the German situation, and the educational program which the Council has begun for inquiry into causes for this was authorized. The meeting also endorsed the Jewish Braille Institute, the only publication in the country for the blind that deals with Jewish problems.

At a recent meeting of the Bronx division of Women’s Association of the American Jewish Congress at the home of Mrs. Max Levien, 18 East 199th St., the borough was divided into geographical units, and the following district chairmen were appointed: Mmes. Rose Silverman, Dorothy Miller, Jeannette Koerner, Joseph Levine, Ralph Breakstone, Martin Frank, Sadye Reiss, Millic Brandt, Frances Greene, Bessie Eistein, Edward Margolis, Mollie Waler, M. The national Council of Jewish Juniors will launch a membership campaaign in new sections this month as part of the expansion, inaugurated at the recent opening of an executive office have in New York City.
A survey in the various communities where sections of the council are located in order to coordinate its social service activities for the past fourteen years, is being conducted by Miss Bernice Wolpert of Milwaukee. This is being organized under the general topic of “What Are Our Community Needs, and How Are They Being Met.”
Officers of the council recently elected at the New York State Conference of the national Council of Jewish Juniors in Syracuse are: Mrs. Eugenie G. Nadelman, president; Miss Minnie Levine, vice-president; Miss Sylvia Ferber, secretary.
