The work of the Joint Distribution Committee in Poland was lauded here today at a press conference by H.M. Caiserman, general secretary of the Canadian Jewish Congress, who has just returned from a ten-week tour of that country.
Mr. Caiserman reported that during his stay in Poland, the J.D.C. allocated 50,000,000 zlotys (approximately $500,000) for the Central Jewish Committee in Warsaw. It was disclosed at the conference that another allocation of 50,000,000 zlotys has since been sent by the J.D.C.
“The majority of the 60,000 Jews in Poland are recipients of relief,” Mr. Caiserman said. He reported that there are 6,000 Jewish war orphans in varies cities in Poland and that they are all being cared for by local Jewish groups with funds obtained from the JDC, with which the Canadian Jewish Congress is cooperating in overseas relief activities.
