The Jews of Palestine stopped work at three o’clock this afternoon and joined in demonstrations against the British restrictions on Palestine land purchase, which were backed by the House of Commons last night by a 292-129 vote.

The call for a nation-wide work stoppage and peaceful demonstrations was issued by central Jewish organizations. Fifteen thousand persons paraded through the Jewish quarters of Jerusalem, and immediately afterward curfew was imposed on these sections.

The demonstrators, headed by Palestine’s Chief Rabbis, leaders of the Jewish Agency and Jewish National Council, and the academic corps of the Hebrew University, carried placards bearing biblical verses referring to the Jews’ rights to land in Palestine. The demonstration ended quietly and the Jews were then dispersed by the police.
