The twenty-ninth annual convention of the Workmen’s Circle (Arbeiter Ring), Jewish labor fraternal order, was opened here today in the presence of several hundred delegates, coming principally from the eastern states. The sessions are being held at the Arbeiter Ring Labor Lyceum.
On Sunday a celebration took place at the Ashland Auditorium. The meeting was addressed by Abraham Cahan, editor of the “Jewish Daily Forward,” and one of the founders of the Arbeiter Ring and by Daniel Hoan, Socialist mayor of Milwaukee. J. Baskin, general secretary of the order, and J. Weinberg, chairman, welcomed the delegates During the address of Mr. Cahan, who was given a rousing ovation, some disturbance occurred, said to have been caused by the Left Wing members.
A special feature of the convention is the participation of the Arbeiter Ring Circle, youth organization.
