The Workmen’s Circle and the Farband Labor Zionist Organization have agreed to unite in a joint program of Yiddish cultural activities throughout the United States and Canada. The announcement was made jointly by Israel Breslow, president of the Workmen’s Circle, and Jacob Katzman, general secretary of Farband.
One of the joint activities will be a national concert tour of outstanding actors and singers commencing next January. The Volksbuehne theater, which had been maintained by the Workmen’s Circle, will now be maintained jointly as a social theater. The joint program also provides for sponsorship of lecture tours by outstanding Yiddish literary personalities. Mr. Breslow described the agreement of the two organizations to cooperate in a cultural program as “a historic moment” in the Jewish cultural life of the country. Mr. Katzman said it would do much to strengthen Jewish life and culture.”
