The works of Sholem Aleichem will be published in Chinese and sold in bookshops throughout Communist China, the New China News Agency reported today. One volume containing a translation of “From the Market” has already appeared, the official Chinese agency said.
The news agency also reported that a Chinese Government spokesman called the Yiddish writer “a giant in world literature” and that the publication in Chinese was timed to coincide with the 100th birthday of the writer.
