A conference of world donors who have pledged aid to the Palestinian Authority has been postponed one month because of potential conflicts with meetings called to assess the situation in Bosnia.
The donors conference, scheduled to take place Saturday in Paris, has been postponed to Jan. 99, said E.U. diplomatic sources here.
According to these sources, the donors conference risked potential conflicts with a series of meetings on Bosnia that are scheduled to take place in London, Paris and Brussels during the next two weeks.
“Several countries, including the United States, have informed the French government that they would have difficulties to be present in Paris because of the Bosnia meetings,” one of these sources said.
The United States had pledged 20,000 troops to serve as part of a 60,000 NATO- led contingent that will seek to enforce the terms of a peace accord for Bosnia initiated last month in Dayton, Ohio, and expected to be signed this week in Paris.
At the donors conference, participants are scheduled to established the amount of their contributions to the Palestinians, analyze the economic situation in the areas falling under Palestinian control and assess the 1996 budget of the Palestinian Authority.
