More than 2,000 physicians, including 200 from 19 foreign countries, attended last night the opening session of the Fifth World Conference of Physicians sponsored by the Israel Medical Association.
The conference, which will last 10 days, was opened at the Hebrew University. The delegates will be addressed by Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. A medical exhibition and ancient medical books will be displayed at the University campus during the conference. The conference will hear 132 papers on medical research throughout the world.
In his address, the Premier called on Israel’s physicians to help “uncover bacteria that cause wars and enmity between nations.” He lauded the achievements of Israel’s medical workers in bringing the nation to a high health level. He noted that the 1959 United Nations Year Book ranks Israel the fifth nation in the world in terms of life expectancy statistics.
