The world convention of the Hakibutz Hameuchad youth movement opened today with 120 delegates in attendance representing Israel and 70 branches of the organization in North and South America, Europe and North Africa. The organization is the association of Israel collectives affiliated with the Histadrut.
Israel Bar Yehuda, Israel’s Minister of the Interior, told the delegates it was essential to bring more Jewish youth to Israel from all over the world and that this youth must have spiritual preparation which could be obtained through participation in one of the pioneering youth movements. The delegates also were greeted by Israel members of the organization.
The Hakibutz Hameuchad, a central organization, has 58 collective settlements with a total population of 23,000. The settlements include some of the largest and oldest in Israel and some frontier strongholds. A total of 60 factories and workshops are owned by the settlements.
