The World Health Organization aided Israel in three projects during the past year, according to its annual report issued here today. The international agency aided the Jewish State in improvement of public health laboratory services, control of certain diseases such as rabies and bovine tuberculosis, and rehabilitation of immigrants.
The report notes that the assistance of WHO and of the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund was requested by Israel because of the situation created by the unrestricted immigration of disabled refugees, including a large number of post-polio cases.
The WHO report paid tribute to the Israel rehabilitation services as being well developed and of a high standard, but said they could not meet the heavy demands upon them. One project launched during the year with WHO aid, according to the report, was the training of public health nurses.
