“A world of freedom and civilization must be free from the overhanging menace of Hitler, Mussolini and the war lords of Japan,”declared Senator Alben Barkley of Kentucky, Senate majority leader, in an address to 1,500 people attending a Jewish National Fund “Land for Victory”dinner here last night.

A restoration of a free world, stated Senator Barkley, “must include all races and nations. It must take into account the pledges made to Jews in the Balfour Declaration and in consummation of that pledge. Palestine, this country and Britain are fighting for the same cause.” Adding that “Palestine and the Near East lands are a vital part of liberty’s world-wide front,” Senator Barkley congratulated American Jews “for the great part they are playing in making that possible.”
