The Swiss section of the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism (LICRA) has asked Poland’s President Edward Gierek to permit Leopold Trepper and his wife “to leave Poland and join their children in Israel.” The LICRA message signed by its president, Willy Donze, added: “Because of the couple’s age and the state of their health and the services they rendered in the fight against Hitler Germany, we hope you will let them spend their last years close to their children.” Trepper, 68, was the former head of Soviet intelligence in Europe during World War II. LICRA also sent a telegram to Soviet Premier Aleksei N. Kosygin asking the Soviet Union to allow Vladimir Slepak, Sylva Zalmanson Kuznetsov, Raiza Palatnik and Ilia Glezer to emigrate to Israel.
