An Egyptian government leader asked the United Nations Commission on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to condemn Israel for allegedly obstructing a reopening of the Suez Canal. Mohamed Abduallah Merzban, Deputy Premier and Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, said Friday that the canal is closed because of Israeli occupation of Egyptian territory. Another speaker, Chou Hua-min of China, reiterated that his countrymen support the Palestinians and other Arabs against American-Israeli “aggression.”
