Heinz Ruhnau, Hamburg Senator on Internal Affairs, said Friday that “no German can stand by a second time and watch millions of Jews be exterminated, for this is the aim of terrorists led by Libya, Syria and part of Egypt.” Ruhnau, addressing the German-Israeli Society in Bonn, assailed the Arab states for their threatening policies toward Israel and for harboring terrorists. “I cannot agree that anti-Zionism, in its effects, is any different from anti-Semitism,” he declared. The Senator stated further that the Arab states had made it difficult for West Germany to be sympathetic to their cause and noted that the Arab governments could eliminate the Black September movement immediately, “if only they had the will.”
