ORT headquarters here announced today that the 130th secondary school in the ORT network was now operating in Bombay, with more than 40 pupils.
“In this way, ORT is making its contribution to Indian development and giving the Jewish youth in the Bombay area an opportunity to raise their living standards, ” said G.L.Gabriel, president of ORT of India. “This is a small beginning, but plans are already underway to expand our program.”
M. A. Braude, ORT director-general, said that the organization hoped to open evening classes in two elementary schools in India. The program was developed by ORT at the request of the Bombay Jewish community. The American Joint Distribution Committee simultaneously inaugurated health and social services for the new schools, in addition to its other support of the ORT program.
