The Haolam, official organ of the World Zionist Executive in London, carries an article by Dr. Nahum Sokolow criticizing #ose who would like to see Palestine a Crown Colony. Dr. Sokolow writes:

They are all anxious to obtain certain trade privileges accorded to the other British Colonies. It is, however, too much to ask that for the sake of preferential treatment, they should try to alter the international foundations on which the Jewish National Home rests. It is in the interests of their national idea that Palestine should remain on an international basis.

THE ANTI-SEMITIC WEEKLY IN DUBLIN

The London Jewish Chronicle, commenting on the publication of the first anti-Semitic weekly in Ireland, says:

In a pronunciamento on the back page of the paper the public is specially directed to note that the policy of the paper, while anti-Semitic, is not one of attack on the Jewish Religion. So far it is not known who are the promoters or the editorial and the writing staff, but the pronunciamento shows that the writing staff includes at least one humorist. One of the causes of this anti-Semitism in the Free State is the appreciable part played by Jews in the economic and commercial life in Dublin, and the opportunity taken by them of the openings in industry and commerce resulting from the policy of the present Free State government to dniustrialize the Free State and make it economically self-supporting. In particular, the prominence of Jews in the manufacture and sale of clothing and furniture has led, it is stated, to a good deal of jealousy and ill-feeling on the part of their non-Jewish competitors. A matter of congratulation is the fact that the present government is completely free from sectarian prejudice, and with its record of rule, based on high principles of justice and impartiality, it can be relied on confidently to ensure that the uglier manifestations of anti-Semitism will not show themselves in Irish ilfe, or will be repressed if they do.

TREATMENT OF JEWS BY NAZIS VARIES

The Manchester Guardian, in an editorial entitled “The Jews in Germany,” says:

In Germany the treatment of the Jews varies from place to place; it is worst in Berlin and in the South, especially in the districts which Julius Streicher, the Franconian district leader, controls. But everywhere Jews are kept not only out of the armed and the civil services but by indirect means out of all the professions and the universities. There are some who fear that the ultimate Nazi policy is to segregate the Jews entirely in a kind of extended ghetto. But a country with the civilized traditions of Germany cannot and will not permanently seek to base itself on racial persecution.
