The Buffalo Jewish Review, urging the support of the United Jewish Appeal, says:

It is difficult to single out aspects of the Jewish situation in Europe which should first claim the attention of the Jews of America. The economic position of the Jews in Poland is unbelievably bad. By numbers of people, social workers and business men, we have been told that they had never witnessed such human misery as exists in various parts of Poland.

The situation in Austria is also economically bad and there is urgent need for assistance both for relief and for education.

Conditions in Germany are being constantly brought to the attention of everyone and no statement here is required to add to the ugly picture!

What we should like to have our fellow Jews in America turn their minds on at the moment is the situation of the refugees from Germany. This is a problem which we do not think the Jews of America have recognized as sufficiently urgent. The countries bordering on Germany which generously admitted refugees—France, Holland. Belgium, Czechoslovakia — are all countries which are economically not in position to pit new-comers against their own unemployed, and hence some permanent reconstruction measure for these refugees must be found.

AN ENGLISH PAPER REPORTS ON MOSLEY

The Nottingham Journal, a daily newspaper published in England, writing on Fascists and Jews, says:

Sir Oswald Mosley disapproves of the press. When the newspapers ignore him he sees the Hidden Hand; when they report him he complains of the “poison gas of misrepresentation.”

It is, therefore, not surprising that the British Union of Fascists should found a journal of their own, and the first copy of “The Fascist Quarterly” lies before us.

Of the contributed articles the most solid is “The Cancer of Europe,” by Major-General J. F. C. Fuller, under which courteous title we find all the commonplaces of Nazi anti-Semitism in its most extreme form. Not only the Old Testament but the Christian Church itself is apparently charged with poison.

Psycho-analysis, we learn, is the latest development of Jewish magic and “undermines self-confidence,” but the perpetual mischief of the Jews is said to be in destructive political work.

SEES LEAGUE USELESS IN CHECKING WAR

commenting on Mr. Sacks’ book tions of Japan and of Nazi Germany, the Northern Daily Mail, an English newspaper, says:

The League of Nations is useless from a point of stopping war, as the League failed Manchuria, Bolivia, Abyssinia, and the Jews. The only hope is for us to become, if not a stronger nation, then strong as any other.

We must have an Air Force second to none, with an abundance of aircraft, as in the next war the enemy will not worry whether you are a disarmament crank or not.

USE IRISH AS JEWS USE HEBREW, PAPER SAYS

The Irish Times of Dublin, urging the use of the Irish language, says:

Jewish children are taught Hebrew, and their prayers in the synagogue, and the reading of their sacred Scriptures, are all in their ancient tongue. Why not follow their example in this respect with regard to Irish? The use of Latin in the churches of Ireland was introduced by the first Christian missionaries because it was then their vernacular language. Now that Latin is a dead language, why not revive Irish in the sanctuary? This would not interfere with anybody.

HULEH DEAL INTERESTS THE C. S. MONITOR

The Christian Science Monitor, reporting on the transfer of the Huleh concession to Jews, says:

No difficulty in raising the necessary funds for the drainage and colonization of the area is anticipated by the land company, which has been in negotiation with a number of settlement agencies and financial bodies to secure their support and participation.

The quarters responsible for the project, at the head of which stands the Jewish agency, see in the acquisition of the Huleh the assurance of the realization of a dream of many years. By reclaiming an area of high agricultural value which hitherto has been desolate and mosquito-ridden, and incidentally improving the condition of its Arab inhabitants, an opportunity is presented to execute a project of wide scope for Jewish settlement.

DISCUSSES ASPECTS OF INTERMARRIAGE

Sir John Foster Frazier, writing in the Empire News on intermarriage, says:

The Americans are a spry lot. Much of their virility, their slapdash ways, and cuteness of brain we ascribe to the mixture of Germans, Italians, Swedes, Poles, Irish, Russians, Greeks, Jews, Rumanians, Hungarians, and all the rest, even English and Scots, all getting mixed up by marriage.

Perhaps some of the least savoury aspects of American life can be ascribed to reckless mixture in marriage.
