The London Times, commenting on the continued arrests of Catholic priests in Germany, says:
Striking evidence has recently been afforded that the Confessional Movement has some justification for its complaint that in the “new religion” racialism and nationhood are put before Christianity. In some high quarters in the regime, at any rate, the whole Church conflict is regarded in a purely political light; the resistance of the pastors is characterized as an attempt to put race, “blood and soil,” and similar National-Socialist ideas in a secondary position, which is passionately resented. If those quarters had their way the whole power of the State would be used to sweep away the movement which is defending basic Christian principles. There seems to be no particular reason why the counsels of those particular quarters should be followed in matters of no direct concern to them, but now that the Minister of Education has taken to decreeing Church taxes there is no knowing what department may next take a hand.

The New York Post, commenting on the intervention of the Swiss government in behalf of Berthold Jacob, the German Jewish journalist kidnaped from Basle by the Nazis, says:
Switzerland’s avowed intention of appealing to the World Court will come too late to help the unfortunate victim. Berthold Jacob is dead, of that we may be sure. Having secured the names of the informants, the German authorities will not have permitted this man to live. Another name has been added to the list of those who must be avenged when National Socialism falls.
