The U.S. Government was urged yesterday at a meeting of Sephardic Jewish leaders now in this country to intervene with Iraqi authorities to “put an immediate halt to the anti-Jewish excesses in that country.” The meeting was called by the World Federation of Sephardic Communities and was addressed by Y. Zerubavel, member of the Jewish Agency executive and director of the Agency’s department for Middle East Jews.
Among those who participated in the meeting were Dr. Isaac Alcalai, chief rabbi of the Sephardic community here; Simon S. Nissim, president of the World Federation of Sephardic Communities; Moise Venture, president of the Sephardic community in Buenos Aires; Dr. A. Benchitrit, leader of the Sephardic community in Colombia; and Marcel France, former president of the Istanbul Jewish community.
