The large congregation assembled in the Main Syna-gogue here on Tabakgasse was overcome by panic when, in the solemn atmosphere of the Kol Nidre service, a voice was heard shouting “Seek ye refuge, I am dying.”
The worshippers, panic stricken, made a rush for the doors, many women fainting in the aisles. The policeman on guard in the street rushed to the scene and apprehended Ernest Klausner, a retired tax collector who had emitted the cry. It was found that in the midst of the services Klausner had suddenly gone insane. He was taken to an insane asylum.
When order was restored in the synagogue. Chief Rabbi Fischer resumed the services.
