More than $4,000 has been spent this year by the Union of Jewish Writers, known as the Jewish Writers Club, to support unemployed Jewish journalists in New York, it was reported at the annual meeting of the union on Tuesday.
William Edlin, of the editorial staff of The Day, was elected president of the Union at the meeting. M. Osherovitz of the Jewish Daily Forward was elected vice-president. B. L. Meckler of the Jewish Morning Journal was named secretary and Alter Epstein, treasurer.
The meeting adopted a resolution of thanks to Dr. L. Fogelman, retiring president, who submitted a report on the activities of the Club for the last year and who also made a number of recommendations for the work to be done in the future.
In the past year the union successfully settled a number of conflicts in Jewish newspaper offices in New York and in Philadelphia. It coopertated with the New York Newspaper Guild in a number of cases
