The writings of Moses Mendelsohn, the great German Jewish philosopher with whose life the epoch of enlightenment and emancipation in Jewry began, will be republished on the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of his birth.
This decision was taken by a special committee established in the city of Berlin for the purpose of preparing a complete and critical edition of Mendelsohn’s works. It is expected that the volumes will appear in 1929, when the two hundredth anniversary of his birth will be celebrated.
All persons who are in possession of Mendelsohn manuscripts, letters and first editions were urged to notify the committee.
Moses Mendelsohn was born in Dessau, September 6, 1729. He died in Berlin, January 4, 1786. Among his best known works are “Jerusalem,” “Phaedon” and “Morgenstunden.”
