“Hitlerism is a total negation of all the American ideals of free press, freedom of religion, freedom from tyranny and freedom of education. In Nazi Germany today, the child is the chattel of the State.”
This was the observation of Frank S. Bayley, president of the Seattle school board and local chairman of the Young Men’s Christian Association, upon his return from a four-month trip abroad.
“The German press is completely silenced and under Hitlerite domination. And a fact for America to reckon with is that Germany’s youth is solidly behind Hitler, and even if he leaves the picture, Germany’s younger generation will be left thoroughly impregnated with the new brand of super-Teutonism and anti-Semitism preached by the Nazi regime.”
