Yair Aran, a 60 year-old German-born diplomat has been named Israel’s first Ambassador to South Vietnam, it was announced yesterday. His appointment was approved by the Cabinet and will be made official after the Saigon government formally agrees to his nomination. Aran, presently the Israeli Consul General in Bombay, was educated at Heidelberg and at the Sorbonne. He served for many years as executive vice-president for administration of the Hebrew University.
