Yasser Arafat’s second-in-command denied reports that he had planned a coup while the Palestinian Authority president was under siege in his Ramallah compound. Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, on Monday described the accusations against him as “cheap attempts to drive a wedge” between him and Arafat.
