Yehuda Leib Cahan, well-known collector and writer of Jewish folk-lore, died here of heart disease yesterday following a two-day illness. He was 56 years old.
Born in Wilno, he came to the United States from London in 1904. By occupation he was a watch-maker and later a jeweler; but by avocation he was a collector of folk-songs and legend, traveling widely in pursuit of his hobby. He published several books on the subject. He was a leader of the American section of the Yiddish Scientific Institute of Wilno.
