World famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin today told police-guarded press conference here that he regrets having performed before German audiences in postwar Germany. Mr. Menuhin, who spoke only to top ranking editors of the Hebrew daily newspapers, made his statement under the compulsion of public resentnent over his behavior.
Arriving last night at the Lydda airport, the Jewish virtuoso told a press conference then that he did not regret his performances in Germany. He said he was at peace with his conscience because he performed as a duty, at the command of the American occupation forces. This statement Irked his equally famous sister, Hebhziba, who get him at the airport. She demanded that he apologize for his performances in Germany, which he did at his conference today with the editors.
