Four new lists have been presented for elections to the fifth Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, the Central Elections committee reported today.
They are a Yemenite list, a Sephardi list and two Arab lists, One Arab list is headed by Sheikh Hnifas, who was a member of the third Knesset. The other Arab list has only one name–Daoud Khuri of Nazareth, who declared he was unemployed. His list is named “Seekers of Democracy. “
Khiri brought the required 5, 000 Israel pound deposit all in small bills, giving election committee officials a headache before they finished counting the currency. The candidate declined to disclose the source of the 5, 000 pounds.
The Sephardic list is headed by Moshe Ishai, a former member of the National Religious Party.
The Mapam Party list submitted previously to the Central Elections Committee is headed by Meir Yaari and Yaacov Chazan, Knesset deputies, and includes the two Mapam cabinet ministers, Mordechai Bentov, Minister of Development; and Israel Barzilai, Minister of Health. The list also includes two Arabs, Yousouf Hamis, a member of the Knesset and Abdul Azziz Zo’bi, deputy mayor of Nazareth.
