Yerachmiel Blumenfeld, Chief Rabbi of Rio’s Orthodox Jewish community, has died here of a heart attack. He was 52 years old. Born in Poland, he was brought to Brazil by his parents. His education included studies in a college here and in rabbinical schools in Jerusalem and Brooklyn, New York. Among the hundreds of people who attended his funeral were representatives of the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the office of Mayor Israel Klabin of Rio, and the offices of Rio’s Cardinal and Archbishop.
