Construction was started today on a $5, 000, 000 central university library for Yeshiva University scheduled for completion in 1967. The library, a six-story structure, will have a total capacity of 750, 000 volumes, including the University’s major collections of Judaica, Hebraica and liberal arts.
Dr. Samuel Belkin, president of Yeshiva University, said the library also will process new acquisitions, introduce new techniques in research and provide a teaching and research instrument serving the needs of students, faculty and the community. Yeshiva University currently has six libraries which contain close to 400, 000 volumes. The six libraries are directed by Dr. Abraham G. Duker, an historian, author, editor and lecturer on modern Jewish and East European history.
